Babies go through several stages of play, from cooing “conversations” with you to peekaboo to learning to grasp a rattle.  The opportunities for play multiply when baby learns to sit:  knocking block towers down is the name of the game!  The noise of the blocks and Mommy’s squeals of delight reinforce the action.  Baby is learning to affect his environment.  At this age, babies are working on their grasping skills and often like to hold one toy in each hand.  Walking toddlers are on the move, and like to bring things from one place to the next.  Don’t be surprised if your child enjoys repeatedly moving toys from one container to another.  They are developing their hand/eye coordination as well as their walking skills.
